Irkutsk, often called the "Gateway to Lake Baikal," is one of the most important cities in Siberia, known for its historical charm, unique wooden architecture, and proximity to the world’s deepest freshwater lake. It attracts visitors for its breathtaking landscapes, Baikal seals (nerpas), hiking trails, and winter ice festivals. The village of Listvyanka, on the shores of Baikal, is a popular tourist destination.

Irkutsk is a key stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway, connecting Moscow to Vladivostok. The city's economy is driven by tourism, energy production, and trade, with growing sectors in education and research.
